What Is a CNC Pipe Threading Lathe Machine?

A CNC pipe threading lathe machine is a horizontal CNC lathe developed specifically for turning and threading tubular workpieces. Unlike a standard CNC lathe that is mainly selected around chuck diameter and swing, a pipe threading machine uses a large spindle through-hole and pipe-supporting workholding system so long tubular material can pass through the headstock.

Why Does a Pipe Threading CNC Lathe Need Double Chucks?

Long pipe stock behaves differently from a short solid shaft. If the pipe is supported only on one side, overhang and rotation can increase vibration and make stable thread cutting more difficult.

A double chuck CNC lathe supports the pipe around the spindle from both sides. This provides more stable workholding for long tubular workpieces and makes the configuration particularly useful for oil tubing, casing, drill pipe and industrial steel pipe.
