Determination of Machining Route of CNC Lathe

Oct. 13, 2022

CNC lathe, called "CNC machining center" in Guangzhou, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, is an automatic machine tool equipped with a program control system. CNC lathe is the abbreviation of computer numerical control, which is an automatic machine tool controlled by program. The control system can logically process the program with control code or other symbolic instructions, and decode it by computer, so that CNC lathe can operate and process parts. The blanks are processed into semi-finished finished parts by cutting tools.

CNC lathe is programmed and controlled by NC processing language, usually G code. NC machining G code language tells the CNC lathe which Cartesian position coordinates to use for machining tools, and controls the tool feed speed and spindle speed, as well as tool changer, coolant and other functions. Compared with manual machining, NC machining has great advantages, such as the parts produced by NC machining are very repeatable; NC machining can produce parts with complex shapes that cannot be finished by manual machining. CNC machining technology has been widely promoted. Most machining workshops have CNC machining capabilities. The common CNC machining methods of Zui in typical machining workshops include CNC milling, CNC lathe and CNC EDM wire cutting (WEDM). The tools for CNC milling are called CNC lathes or CNC machining centers. The lathe for CNC turning is called CNC lathe center. NC machining G code can be manually programmed, but usually the machining workshop uses CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) software to automatically read CAD (Computer Aided Design) files and generate G code programs to control the CNC lathe.

Determination of Machining Route of CNC Lathe

The CNC lathe feed processing route refers to the path that the turning tool moves from the tool setting point (or the fixed origin of the CNC lathe) until it returns to this point and ends the processing program, including the path of cutting processing and non cutting empty travel paths such as tool entry and exit.

The feed route of finishing is basically carried out along the contour of the part. Therefore, the key to determine the feed route is to determine the feed route of rough machining and null travel.

In CNC lathe processing, the determination of processing route should generally follow the following principles.

① The precision and surface roughness of the workpiece to be machined shall be guaranteed.

② The processing route zui is short, the idle travel time is reduced, and the processing efficiency is improved.

③ The workload of numerical calculation shall be simplified as much as possible, and the processing program shall be simplified.

④ For some reused programs, subprograms shall be used.
